Teaching Portfolio
I have over 25 years’ experience teaching visual art to adults, teens and children in a wide variety of educational settings: traditional classrooms; community centers; on-site workshops; and after-school programs. As an arts educator, facilitator and presenter, I am well-versed in teaching 2D and 3D art to students of all skill levels and ages, in both small and large groups.
I believe students learn to visually express their personal ideas and interests best when they are given a comprehensive knowlege-base of art concepts, techniques and materials. Therefore, I focus student learning on skill development, art process and materials experimentation, and student-led idea exploration.
My experience in teaching high school and college-level art courses gives me a strong background in curriculum and project development, design, implementation, and evaluation. In these classes, I teach using a spiral method. Learners receive focused, responsive instruction tailored to individual skill-levels.
When conducting workshops to students with various art backgrounds, I often utilize collaborative artmaking, process art, and intuitive exploration. I aim to foster an encouraging atmosphere of play, wonder, and experimentation, so that even participants with limited artmaking experience can be confident creators.
The following student art portfolio offers a peek at the types of projects students have created under my guidance in primary and secondary art classes, undergraduate courses, community adult education classes, and workshops.
