About the Project > Project Gifts

As a project, Looking for Arete is a result of several deep personal convictions:

Encountering arete is awe-inspiring, and awe is never trivial.

Sharing individual experiences of awe can lead to a deeper understanding—of ourselves, of others, and the greater world.

In Looking for Arete, I give artwork away to individuals who are somehow connected to an awe-inspiring arete. I give them my art as a token of my personal gratitude, but each piece of art can become a greater gift--one of communal acknowledgement, recognition and support.

Looking for Arete allows me to make artworks of arete (highest quality) for people with arete (highest effectiveness) about their arete (striving to reach a highest potential).

Looking for Arete artwork is not commissioned or purchased by the recipients. I am giving them the finished artwork as a physical and symbolic reminder of their striving towards arete and as a thank you memento for their participation in the project.
