Holding Freight: Ocean
When I began this series, I didn’t understand why I felt compelled to make concrete forms to hold the glass components, considering the imagery was ocean related. Then I began learning about the environmental impacts of global shipping. The impulse began to make more sense. Shipping noise, for example, is impacting cetaceans more and more as container ships become larger and more numerous to meet global demand for international goods.
The completed piece below is the only work I currently have photographed. The other pieces are still in progress. Right now, they are sitting unfinished in my studio, which I cannot currently access because of COVID-19. I hope to get back to this work soon.
